How to create images in readers' mind?

You as a fiction writer, probably want to create vivid images in your readers' mind. How you can create such images which make the reader more engaged? How you can make readers more imagined? How you can make your fiction more creative?

There can be various answers to these questions. Among them, I mark personification as one of the best technique.

What is personification?

Personification is a literary device that assigns human qualities to non-human objects or ideas. This is a very powerful technique to create a mental picture in the readers' mind in a way you want.

While writing fiction, you have to create a vivid picture. Otherwise, fiction doesn't engage your readers. They do not turn the pages. But when you personify in writing, it miraculously attracts your readers in an unimagined way. Some examples of personification are:-
Reader engaging in fiction.

a. The moon smiled when we sighted in the sky.
b. The wind whispered at me.
c. His plan is hitting me.

The moon is not human but it is attributed to human quality 'smile'. The wind is also not human but the whisper is a human quality. Generally, the plan cannot hit. From these examples, we can conclude, in personification, human qualities (emotion, feeling, action) is assigned to non-human objects.

How to personify?

For a fiction writer, it is very necessary to learn the art of personification. Two processes should be needed to master as.
1. Notice the objects around you. (e.g. Book, pencil, computer etc.)
2. Think about appropriate human qualities. (e.g. welcome, shout, angry etc.)
3. Combine object and human quality. (e.g. The book is welcoming me with lots of information.)
